Literature Text
I can see already
the woman you'll find someday--
I can just barely make her out
so far away still,
but even from a distance
I can see she's beautiful.
When you come to me
with those eyes I've looked
into through sun and rain,
those eyes I've watched
fill with fury and joy,
worry and wonder--
when those eyes shine
with some new light
that isn't mine,
when they glow
with a question you don't know
you're trying to ask,
I'll see what you need
(you were never mine
to keep)
and I'll love her completely
so that you can do that too.

If
We can
draw lines and give them names
like elements
as they are discovered
Or etch into our skins
this soloecal desire
until it is impossible to tell
where words stop
and life begins.
I would
Find a common rhythm that includes
you in my arms, my hands
and lungs and thoughts
tracing the outline of you
entangled with me
colliding like two lost particles
locked in a shared gravity
drifting through the vacuum
of space.
I could.
Exhale, and
remember
sentence structure.
Literature
plumbum
she has a heart of gold
and she, a heart of lead
and she, a heart of uranium.
and they go walking sometimes, the three of them.
gold is confident in her worth,
untarnishable
bought and sold and bought and sold
the virgin whore
and lead behind,
heart heavy in her chest
guilt from bullets
and pride from pipes
and anxiety from irreparable brain damage
and somewhere off to the side treads uranium,
tumors growing,
white skin glowing,
thin frame for a dense core.

I like the concept, but it did really highlight the need for more gender-neutral language, because i also would have the exact same sentiment for anyone that my child chose as a partner, regardless of where on the gender-spectrum they were. it'll take some reworking, probably.
